The chairman of Dansa Agro Limited, Alhaji Sanni Dangote has recently disclosed to journalist in Lagos that Federal Government policy inconsistency is a major factor responsible for lack of finance in the agricultural sector.
Sanni who also doubles as the vice president of Dangote group stated that the problem of finance constitute about 60 percent of the problem facing the agricultural sector in the country.
In his words “the inconsistency of Federal Government policies has brought lack of confidence especially from financial institutions.Most of them don’t see Government sustaining the policy as well as supporting them along the policy line”
He also noted that lack of proper infrastructure and mechanism way of enhancing productivity has made the sector unattractive to investors.
“If the issue of inconsistency in policy can be sorted,it would greatly improve the agricultural sector and make it a profitable venture.This will also make financial institutions start getting involve in the sector and ready to take the risk” he explained.
Similarly,while giving his assessment of the FG Agricultural Transformation Agenda (ATA), Dangote said ‘other ministries that are directly involved with the policy have to be on the same page with the ministry of Agriculture for the policy to work’
According to him “the Agricultural Transformation Agenda is a good idea but there is need to harmonies the vision with other ministries so that there will be one cohesive approach”
He maintained that the ATA vision need to be driven by the presidency with all ministries concerned so that there can be a headway.
